Overview

Tashi Sun is an Associate in the Litigation Department at Paul Hastings and is based in the firm’s Shanghai office. His practice primarily focuses on life science, cross-border government enforcement matters, internal investigations, and compliance risk management for clients in the Greater China region. His pro bono work included conducting legal research for renowned international organizations and assisting in wrongful conviction cases for the Innocence Project.

Mr. Sun is admitted to practice law in New York. Prior to joining Paul Hastings, Mr. Sun worked as an associate at other leading international firms. He has also worked in the Duke University Office of Counsel, assisting the university with various employment and litigation matters.

During law school, Mr. Sun served as the article editor for the Duke Environmental Law and Policy Forum; he also worked at the Duke Law Start-Up Ventures Clinic, providing legal advice and assistance to local entrepreneurs.

Representations

  • Representing multinational pharmaceutical and medical device companies in Greater China in internal investigations relating to alleged bribery of government officials and healthcare professionals, corruption, fraud, conflicts of interest, third-party misconduct, bid-rigging, and various other underlying issues.
  • Representing the Special Committee of the Board of Directors of a China-based pharmaceutical company in internal investigation over whistleblower complaints of corruption and conflicts of interest against its senior executives.
  • Assisting an international pharmacy in conducting anti-corruption risk assessment and post-investment compliance program implementation in connection with its joint venture program in China.
  • Assisting international pharmaceutical companies in developing and refining their China-specific compliance policies and procedures.
  • Advising a number of global asset management companies and private equity firms in their pre-transaction due diligence for investments across Asia with a focus on anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, sanctions, and export control compliance; and assisting the companies in post-transaction risk remediation measures, including drafting compliance policies and conducting training programs for portfolio companies.
  • Representing an international consulting firm before the U.S. Department of Justice in an investigation targeting its senior managers, who allegedly engaged in a complex bribery and embezzlement scheme overseas while providing consulting services for a Chinese state-owned company.
  • Conducting internal review and anti-corruption risk assessment for an international consulting firm with respect to its summer internship program and hiring practices.
  • Representing a Fortune 500 electronics manufacturer in its settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice regarding charges of violations of the Consumer Product Safety Act.
  • Advising a former CEO of a U.S. public company on how to respond to Special Committee’s internal investigation, and preparing the client for potential enforcement from the U.S. SEC.
  • Representing an international fragrance company in conducting an internal investigation in Vietnam related to allegations that its employees requested kickbacks from third parties.
