July 20, 2025
NEW YORK – Paul Hastings LLP announced today that Sherry Xie has joined the firm as a partner in New York, bolstering its global tax practice and enhancing its ability to guide clients through complex strategic M&A, private equity and other transactions.
Joining from Kirkland & Ellis, Xie advises U.S. and international clients, both public and private, on the full spectrum of tax matters, including the tax aspects of mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations and other complex business transactions. She routinely represents leading public corporations and private equity firms and their portfolio companies across multiple industries, including consumer products, technology, healthcare, manufacturing and financial services. Prior to Kirkland, Xie practiced at Skadden.
“Sherry adds premier talent and critical bench strength in New York to our existing global tax capabilities. Our strategic priority is to continue to build a destination global tax platform with the scale and talent to meet our record demand from our M&A, PE and other transactional practices,” said firm Chair Frank Lopez.
Xie’s clients have included ADTRAN Holdings, Better Health Group, Cyxtera Technologies, Focus Impact, Gen Digital, Hellman & Friedman, Kinderhook Industries, Monomoy Capital Partners, OceanFirst Financial Corp, Polestar Performance and TJC. Representative matters include advising NortonLifeLock on its $25 billion merger with Avast and Polestar Performance AB on its $20 billion business combination with Gores Guggenheim Inc.
“I’m thrilled to join Paul Hastings’ premier global transactions practice as it continues to outperform,” said Xie. “I look forward to collaborating with this incredibly talented team to build on the momentum and continue providing best-in-class service to sophisticated clients navigating their most significant business decisions.”
Xie is the fourth partner to join Paul Hastings’ tax practice over the past year. She follows the additions of Daniel Nicholas from Weil Gotshal & Manges and Chambers Band 1-ranked Christopher Mangin from Vinson & Elkins, who brings particular strength in REITs and real estate, both in Washington, D.C., and Alex Farr from McDermott Will & Emery in Dallas as Paul Hastings continues to build out its platform in Texas.
Lawyers on the team guide clients through the tax and structuring issues that arise across the full spectrum of complex transactions the firm advises on, including M&A, private-equity-backed acquisitions and dispositions, investment funds and asset management, as well as all areas of finance, including structured and leveraged finance and alternative lending, capital markets and real estate and real estate funds transactions, and all aspects of restructurings. The practice and its members have been consistently recognized by International Tax Review (ITR), including most recently in ITR’s World Leaders and Americas Tax Awards.
