The American Lawyer Recognizes Joy Gallup as 2016 Dealmaker of the Year

March 28, 2016

New York, NY - Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that New York partner Joy Gallup was recognized as one of The American Lawyer’s “Dealmakers of the Year” for her innovative work representing GE Capital as lender and agent in an approximately $3 billion seller financing loan facility, one of the largest real estate financings ever in Latin America.

This recognition comes in what was a particularly strong year in the transactional space, with The American Lawyer noting that, “Dealmaking hit a new high this past year. From the manic M&A world to the schizophrenic capital markets, we diagnose the year in dealmaking and profile the lawyers behind the most significant work.”

Ms. Gallup was highlighted for “designing a dual-currency seller financing that was the first of its kind in the Mexican market,” which helped General Electric finance its sale of a $3 billion commercial real estate mortgage portfolio in Mexico.

“My team got pulled in because of our Mexico expertise,” said Ms. Gallup in the accompanying article. She also acknowledged that her background in structured finance came in handy when designing the dual-currency seller financing. “Knowing what the market will tolerate, what it is used to seeing and what it will understand” was crucial, Ms. Gallup added.

The firm’s work for GE Capital in the financing of this landmark real estate loan was also recently recognized in the Corporate Finance category at the Latin Lawyer Deal of the Year Awards, and was highlighted in the Financial Times’ North America Innovative Lawyers 2015 report.

At Paul Hastings, our purpose is clear — to help our clients and people navigate new paths to growth. With a strong presence throughout Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the U.S., Paul Hastings is recognized as one of the world’s most innovative global law firms.
