Paul Hastings Wins Patent Ruling for Waters Technologies Corp.

Washington, D.C. (June 28, 2007) Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP, a leading international law firm, obtained final victory for Waters Technologies Corporation in Biomedino, LLC v. Waters Technologies Corporation et al., 2006-1350 (Fed. Cir. June 18, 2007) when the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld a ruling from the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington finding all the claims against Waters and its co-defendants invalid.

The patent claim against Waters involved a medical device for removing species (e.g., psychoactive drugs) from fluids (e.g., human blood). The device binds the psychoactive drugs to antibodies, passes the fluid with the drugs bound to the antibodies into a separate chamber, and then separates the antibodies from the drugs to regenerate the antibodies.

The Paul Hastings team was led by Of Counsel Aslan Baghdadi and Partner Larry Gotts and also included Of Counsel Elizabeth Roesel and legal assistant Sandra Kostelecky.
