Paul Hastings Strengthens IP Life Sciences Group with Addition of Leading IP Partner

New York, New York (August 31, 2010) Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that Gerald Flattmann has joined the firm as partner in the Litigation practice. Mr. Flattmanns practice focuses on patent litigation in the life sciences sector, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and medical devices. He is based in the firms New York office.

Geralds market-leading reputation and significant experience in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries will enhance the firms growing IP practice, said Jamie Wareham, global chair of Paul Hastings Litigation practice. His addition advances our development of a high-end IP practice that leverages our broad footprint in the U.S. and our strong positions in Europe and Asia.

Mr. Flattmann joins Paul Hastings from the Intellectual Property group at Kirkland & Ellis. He has a demonstrated track record of successfully representing brand-name pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies in all aspects of patent litigation and counseling. Mr. Flattmann earned his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1992, where he was also editor-in-chief of the Harvard Journal of Law and Technology. He received a B.S. in Biology from Yale in 1989, graduating magna cum laude.

Along with Mr. Flattmann, Melanie Rupert and Christine Willgoos have both joined the firm as of counsel in the Litigation practice. Ms. Rupert and Ms. Willgoos both have biotech backgrounds and focus their practice on patent litigation in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical devices industries. They are also based in the firms New York office.
