Paul Hastings Instrumental in Organizing Historic Event with “Supreme Court of International Trade”

Attorney Matthew S. Dunne will Chair and Moderate Event

New York, NY (April 5, 2006) - Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP (Paul Hastings), a leading international law firm, is pleased to announce that the firm has played a pivotal role in organizing a historic event with the World Trade Organization’s Appellate Body, which is often referred to as the “Supreme Court of International Trade.”  For the first time ever, all of the Appellate Body judges will appear together in public to discuss international trade law and the WTO dispute settlement system.  This program, which is being held under the aegis of the American Bar Association’s Section of International Law, will take place on Wednesday, April 5, at 9:15 am at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City.   Matthew S. Dunne, an attorney in Paul Hastings’ Litigation Department, will serve as program chair and moderator.

“Paul Hastings regularly advises multinational corporations and foreign governments on issues of international trade and investment,” said Matthew Dunne, attorney at Paul Hastings. “The current political climate and the accelerating pace of globalization have brought these issues to the forefront.  Because of Paul Hastings’ experience and expertise in this area of law, it was a natural fit for us to participate in this one-of-a-kind event.”

During the program, each of the Appellate Body judges will offer their perspective on different aspects of international trade law and the WTO dispute settlement system.  Following their remarks, Matthew Dunne will lead a session in which attendees will have the rare opportunity to ask questions of the leading jurists in international trade law.

Since its inception in 1995, the WTO Appellate Body, which is based in Geneva, Switzerland, has quickly become one of the most respected and effective international judicial bodies. The WTO Appellate Body has not only resolved many contentious international trade disputes, but also furthered the development of international law more generally.
