Paul Hastings Adds Privacy and Data Security Expert

July 05, 2017

Washington, D.C. – Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that Jacqueline Cooney has joined the firm as senior privacy advisor in the Privacy and Cybersecurity practice. Jacqueline will be based in Washington, D.C., and was most recently with Booz Allen Hamilton.

“Jackie’s arrival expands our ability to provide an integrated solution for our clients’ data governance, privacy and security needs,” said Behnam Dayanim, global co-chair of the Privacy and Cybersecurity practice at Paul Hastings. “Combined with the recent addition of Rob Silvers, we continue to invest in our practice to ensure that we remain well-positioned to offer a full range of legal and business-sensitive counseling, compliance and assessment services, coupled with premier litigation, investigations and transactional expertise in these same areas.”

“This is a great opportunity for me to join Paul Hastings, putting my background in privacy law and compliance, data security, and governmental affairs to work for the firm’s clients,” said Ms. Cooney. “Paul Hastings is known as a leader in applying a holistic perspective - incorporating business, law and technology – to advise clients and implement solutions for emerging challenges that companies face on a daily basis. I look forward to building upon the firm’s strength and growing this dynamic practice.”

At Booz Allen Hamilton, Ms. Cooney managed the commercial privacy team, where she consulted with clients on improving privacy and data security regulatory compliance, international data collection and transfers, and privacy program maturity for U.S. and global companies in the pharmaceutical, communications, manufacturing, financial services, retail, and health sectors. Ms. Cooney has developed and implemented privacy program elements including global privacy policies and procedures, incident management, response and breach notifications, EU GDPR compliance, Safe Harbor privacy notices, and Privacy Shield certifications for Fortune 100 companies.

The arrival of Ms. Cooney continues growth in the firm’s Privacy and Cybersecurity practice, following the addition of Robert Silvers, who joined the firm after serving as the Assistant Secretary for Cyber Policy at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

At Paul Hastings, our purpose is clear — to help our clients and people navigate new paths to growth. With a strong presence throughout Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the U.S., Paul Hastings is recognized as one of the world’s most innovative global law firms.
