March 02, 2015

New York – Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that Samuel Waxman, who was previously an M&A partner and co-chair of Shearman & Sterling’s Intellectual Property Transactions practice, has joined the firm as a partner in New York, representing the next step in the firm’s growth of its New York Mergers & Acquisitions and global Technology Transactions practices.

“With technology increasingly at the forefront of business growth in the US, and the M&A market continuing to drive the global recovery, it’s become increasingly important for us to invest in our ability to serve all of our clients’ needs in managing, acquiring and leveraging their important IP assets and pursuing continued growth through acquisition,” said Elizabeth Noe, chair of the Corporate practice. “Sam’s expertise sits at the intersection of M&A and IP, a priority area for our growing base of technology, life sciences and media and telecom clients,” she added.

“Sam's arrival represents both another step in our rapid expansion in New York, as well as an additional  resource for our  Mergers & Acquisitions and Technology practice in New York and firm wide,” said Barry Brooks, chair of the New York office and an M&A partner with the firm. “We have an impressive roster of technology-focused companies as clients and they will be particularly well-served by Sam’s expertise in transactions, technology, IP and commercial agreements in dynamic sectors such as life sciences, biotech and healthcare delivery,” he added.

Mr. Waxman’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings, joint ventures, and intellectual property licenses, with a particular emphasis on companies for whom technology or intellectual property is a key asset.  He also represents venture investment funds and emerging technology companies, and is experienced in structuring and negotiating angel and venture financing.

Mr. Waxman has been recognized as a leading technology and intellectual property lawyer by the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Report and the Legal 500. In addition, Intellectual Asset Management’s Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners stated, “The ‘street-smart’ lawyer has made the most of an outstanding transactional platform at the firm and proved his mettle on some of the biggest acquisitions/divestitures around.”
