Exporter Update: Court Rules Export Application Information Subject To Disclosure Under Foia

On June 28, a federal district court in Tampa, Florida ruled that certain information contained in export license applications filed with the Bureau of Export Administration cannot be protected from disclosure under the federal Freedom of Information Act, 5 U.S.C. § 522. The case resulted from a newspaper’s FOIA request for the identities of exporters to Cuba and the nature of the goods and services sold there.
