Energy Practice Group

The United States House of Representatives passed a comprehensive energy bill on April 21, 2005 (H.R. 6, entitled The Energy Policy Act of 2005) that contained a number of provisions involving electricity, natural gas and oil. On May 26, 2005, the United States Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources reported to the floor an energy bill that contains many of the same provisions as H.R. 6, but excludes others. This alert is intended to focus on the electricity and natural gas areas that are of most interest to our clients and identify the major areas of similarities and differences between H.R. 6 and the Senate bill.
