CMS Issues Complaint Procedures Under HIPAA

On April 20, 2005, the Security Rule promulgated under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA Security Rule) will become binding on most covered entities.  The Security Rule consists of numerous requirements designed to ensure that health care providers, plans, and other covered entities maintain information security policies that adequately safeguard the integrity of patient information stored or transmitted in electronic form.
