The use of the Internet by investment advisers has soared in recent years. In fact, it is now quite uncommon for an investment adviser not to have its own Web site. For many small advisers, their Web site is somewhat basic. Increasingly, however, advisers are developing their Web sites and finding that they can be a useful and cost-effective way for them to communicate with their clients and market their services. It is strange to think that just 11 years ago, when the Securities and Exchange Commission issued its first electronic media interpretative release, the use of the Internet by financial service firms was a relatively novel concept.
