
Overview
Jason Shafer is Of Counsel in the Bank Regulatory practice of Paul Hastings and is based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Jason focuses on advising U.S. and non-U.S. banking organizations, payment card networks, financial technology companies, and other financial institutions on a broad range of bank regulatory, supervisory, transactional, enforcement, and corporate governance matters. He represents clients before the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Banks, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and various state regulators.
His practice includes advising bank holding companies and banks on permissible investments and activities, mergers and acquisitions, bank and trust company chartering (both national and state), joint ventures and strategic partnerships, bank resolution and receivership issues, as well as affiliate transactions. He also advises private equity firms and other investors in the regulated financial institutions sector on banking laws.
Prior to joining Paul Hastings, Jason worked at another international law firm and has held several positions in government, most recently as a Senior Counsel in the Financial Regulation and Policy Group of the Legal Division of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, where, among other matters, he led the review of bank merger applications and advised on prudential requirements, liquidity regulations, and swap margin requirements. Earlier in his career, Jason was a Special Counsel at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission where he focused on developing and implementing swaps reform.
